BRIGHT YOUNG THING: Trapped in a Burly Oak: The Tesla Johnbird Catbones Story

Oh LAWD. My heart would stop beating if one of my felines got lodged in a tree. So glad Tesla is safe now. Does he seem to want to return to the great outdoors, or did this debacle wring that desire right out of him?

I had nightmares. NIGHTMARES!! It was an awful experience.
He still enjoys being outdoors, but I've noticed he's a tad more cautious. Hasn't gone near any trees, thank goodness!

It's these little adventures that remind me how much I love them all.

Give him a nice scratch behind the ears for me. Poor guy! Except shame on him for worrying you!

Will do! Personally, I think he enjoys making me worry. He's a brat!

It sounds terribly mean, but the best way to get a cat down that thinks he is stuck is to squirt him with a hose. My mum's burmilla would climb to the very top of a very tall gum tree and meow pitifully for days while we tried to coax her down with flakes of smoked salmon and beef mince. Finally we turned the hose on. We didn't even get as far as wetting her, as soon as the water started to hit the tree leaves she scooted the whole way down without even thinking about it. Cats are strange.

!!
I didn't even think of that! That probably would have worked like a charm - Tesla hates water. Moreso than normal cats. I have SCARS to prove it. If this ever happens again, I'm going to give that a shot.
Cats are so strange.

My cat did this once... but with a very tall bookcase. (She's not nearly as adventurous as your little guy.) She stayed up there for like 30 hours, until I found a ladder and dislodged her. I never did find out how she got herself up there. I think it was one of her early experiments with teleporting, which explains how she now manages to mysteriously vanish into thin air when I call her.

More proof that cats are an alien species! Perhaps your kitty was trying to protect the books?
My guys do that teleporting thing too ... especially when it's time for a flea bath. Hmm.

this is why all of my cats are now indoor cats. one vanished. before vanishing, i think it was that same cat that had a big gash on its head from fighting with another cat. scrappy little bastards. one fell in the swimming pool one night, &, well, i'm sure you can guess what was found the next morning. & my cats have always been declawed, so luckily we've never had the cat-in-a-tree incident.
somehow my cats are always incredibly dumb, though, providing even more of a reason to keep them inside. but hey, my monster may be dumb, but he is still my favorite cat ever.

& as for tesla's refusal to comment... he is probably incredibly ashamed about what he did & doesn't want you to know the truth about why he did it. ever.
NEVER.
he will take the secret to his grave.

there are worse things i could tell you [not involving my pets|the pets of people i know] but i won't because they're horrible. one of them almost made me cry.
